Books (that I wrote)

I started writing during Covid lockdowns, and boy we had a lot of lockdowns in The Philippines.  I was inspired after catching up with an old school friend (David John Griffin) who had recently published a book that I truly enjoyed.  I decided to start writing and after doing some short stories, I took the plunge and wrote a tactical sci-fi novella.  Then 2 more, and eventually combined all three into a trilogy, published as "The Timeliness Trilogy".

Following that, I guess I truly caught the 'writing bug' and, using an overheard phrase from my early twenties that for some reason had stayed in my brain, I wrote a book called "The King of Gravesend." The feedback was positive and I followed it with 2 more books in the series, and also published a three-book anthology. As the last in that series was called "The King of Gravesend is Dead" I surmised that the series was done.  I was wrong.

I was encouraged to write a follow-up outlining what happened to the King of Gravesend's widow and, at the time of writing this, I am about to release book 5 in this series (and book 6 is in progress).

So! Here they are, the products of an over-caffeinated brain and an over-active imagination.

The Timeliness Series

Timeliness

A compelling tale covering the origins and progress of a top-secret military project that is researching the possibility of using time and space manipulation in a tactical scenario. It follows the life and work of Dr. Peter Castell as he leads his team through months of research, encountering moments of triumph and disappointment until they turn their hypothesis into a viable program.

Dilemma: (The Paradox of Timeliness)

This book follows the narrative of Timeliness as the team undertakes its first tactical use of time and space manipulation technology.  It explores the dilemma of paradox, and considers the horrible choices the team has to make along the way.  When is a good deed not a good deed? Who can define the significance of an event and what are the consequences of decisions made?

The final part of the trilogy.  This book follows the development of The Wave Project and its misuse at the hands of the Chairman.  His quest for power and his ruthlessness threaten to drag the whole team into being participants in horrific abuses of human rights.  What can be done to stop the monstrous ambitions of this man and put the incredible technology back on the right track.

All three books, neatly wrapped up in one giant volume.

"The book flowed well and it kept me turning the page to see where it would lead." 5* amazon review for the Trilogy

The King of Gravesend Series and The Ro and Angel Trent Series

Charles "Chuds" Douglas is deported from the USA and finds himself back in Britain, with just a small bag of clothes and 200 Canadian dollars in his pocket.  He used to be someone, he used to be like royalty in his hometown, but when he returns so many things have changed.  A new family has taken over many of his old 'business interests'.  Can he get back to the top of his game?  Can he once again become "The King of Gravesend"?

Chuds has everything he could want, a successful business, and great relationship with a gorgeous girl, but something is missing.  A challenge, to put it bluntly, he's bored.  He and his partner, Ro, travel to The Philippines to research a new restaurant project. They discover new foods, new friends, and even a new romance.  What could go wrong?  Turns out that if it can go wrong it will go wrong.  Very, very wrong!

Chuds has experienced a lot in his life.  Following his deportation he rebuilt his life, created new businesses, and met a new life partner.  However, on the way he made a few enemies, one of whom brought danger to his family and his businesses, and even attracted the attention of the security services.  Can he find a way to neutralize these threats once and for all?

All three books in one mighty tome

Rowena 'Ro' Trent just wanted to keep building the businesses that she had started with her late husband, Chuds Douglas.  Many had called him the King of Gravesend, but Ro had no aspirations to become local royalty.  Then an aspiring, far-right politician threatened her business, her friends, and even her new marriage.  He kept pushing and pushing, so... Ro Pushed Back!

Ro and Angel are asked to help find the nephew of a Philippine Police Official.  Lando travelled to the UK to work as a nurse, but has been missing for 3 days now.  She, and her team, find themselves battling massive corruption on a local and international scale.  She knows that she can't bring these people down, but she can save a life, bring this son home, and help to break this particular chain.

Ro and her wife, Angel, had promised the young Albanian girl that they had rescued from sadistic traffickers that they would fix her untreated injuries.  She just wanted to have a relaxing time in the resort that she owns in The Philippines, and keep that promise.  Surely nothing could go wrong at their businesses in the UK while they were away... could it?  Then a beautiful Chinese girl turned up at the Shisha looking for a job.

Angel has plans to open an 'ethical art gallery' featuring work from "Angels", artists that give back selflessly to their communities.  All profits will go to assist art therapy programs at 'Besi's Place', their shelter that protects the vulnerable and abused.  Not everyone shares this vision, a recently released abuser is convinced that Besi's Place is hiding his wife and child.  Bent on revenge, his descent into dangerous madness runs headlong into Angel's mission.

Taking The King's Shilling*

Ro and Angel Trent are happy, their businesses are all doing well and they are enjoying helping their friend Winnie develop her new theme pub, The King's Shilling.  Then Winnie drops a bombshell, she gives Ro a lockbox that holds clues.  Clues to a potential sibling, a shocking past, and a future of unbelievable potential.
